Cessna 402C HK2522

Colombia, 2025

Summary

Date: January 8, 2025
Location: Antioquia Department, Colombia

The aircraft HK2522, a Cessna 402C operated by Pacífica Aviación, went missing on January 8, 2025 with 10 persons on board, while enroute from Juradó to Medellín, Colombia. The last known position placed it in a remote, mountainous area in the Antioquia department. A search operation extended into its second day without results.

Our team, utilizing specialized assets and technical resources from Rescue International, provided critical information that drastically reduced the search area. Our analysis updated the last known position by 14km. By analysing complex data and delivering precise coordinates, we narrowed the search from 40 square kilometres to just few hundreds of meters—bringing much-needed clarity to an effort complicated by conflicting information.

Shortly after we delivered our analysis and precise coordinates, the civil aviation authority’s SAR team was deployed to the given area, where they located the aircraft (the same day) in a dense forest area. Tragically, it was confirmed that there were no survivors.

A search that could have lasted days, was finished within hours. As the area is typically cloudy searching in a wider area would have been extremely challenging, precision was key in finding the right weather window at the right place.
