Precision Search TG-DUL

Guatemala, 2024

Summary

Date: July 8, 2024
Location: Fuego Volcano region, Guatemala

During a routine training flight, the Cessna 172P Skyhawk II (TG-DUL) lost contact while flying over the jungles near Fuego Volcano. Our team was called in to support the Guatemalan Search and Rescue (SAR) authorities.

Utilizing specialized assets and technical resources, we provided critical information that reduced the search area to a single 200 m corridor line. An analysis report with specific recommendations was delivered to the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC), and a SAR helicopter was immediately dispatched to that sector.

In less than an hour, the wreckage of TG-DUL was located—just 146 m from our updated Last Known Position (LKP) and exactly within the designated corridor. Our refined analysis achieved an estimated course precision of 5 m.

Tragically, both occupants were found deceased. While the outcome was sorrowful, this operation highlights how focused technical support and rapid information delivery can dramatically accelerate SAR efforts.
