This foundational course equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. Designed to establish a strong baseline for all SAR team members, the training covers core principles, techniques, and best practices that are critical to ensuring safety, efficiency, and success in search missions.
Participants will develop competencies in navigation, search techniques, rescue principles, and situational awareness. The course introduces key elements such as basic rope systems, communication protocols, and team coordination strategies. Emphasis is placed on personal safety, risk assessment, and understanding the SAR command structure to operate effectively within an organized response effort.
Through a blend of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and scenario-based simulations, participants will gain hands-on experience in key SAR skills. They will enhance navigation using maps, compasses, and GPS; apply systematic search methods for greater efficiency; and practice rescue operations including patient stabilization, rope systems, and safe evacuations.
Training also covers effective communication using standard radio protocols and team coordination, as well as safety and risk management to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement protective measures.
This training provides the foundation needed for more advanced SAR roles and specialization. It is designed for new team members, volunteers, and anyone seeking to build a solid knowledge base in search and rescue operations.
By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to operate safely and effectively as part of a SAR team, contributing to successful outcomes and enhanced rescue efforts.
Presential course only – 5 days – Theoretical – Taught in English (Spanish available only under request) – Prerequisites: Basic experience in SAR. This course is designed for government institutions only.
Training takes place in The Netherlands and in the UK. Course can also be hosted on own location.
