Search Simulation Workshop: HK2803 Case Study

Course Description

Introduction

Want to experience the analytical challenge of finding the missing HK-2803, the aircraft that crashed in Colombia in 2023, leaving four children to survive alone in the jungle for 40 days. This case study offers a dynamic, interactive simulation where participants will create and execute a search plan for the missing HK-2803.

The course provides hands-on experience in Search and Rescue (SAR) analysis, guiding participants through each critical phase of the real-life search effort. Participants will learn how to apply analytic techniques to develop an effective search strategy, integrating real-world factors such as terrain, weather, and available resources.

In 2023, the HK-2803—a Cessna carrying seven passengers—vanished in the remote, unforgiving Colombian Amazon rainforest. The search effort demanded extraordinary ground operations, but without rigorous analysis, success would have been impossible. This immersive experience highlights the power of SAR analysis in transforming complex missions into successful outcomes.

Join us to sharpen your analytical skills and gain unique insights into one of the most challenging SAR operations in recent history.
